Monterey’s Laguna Seca has been plagued with grumpy neighbors over the years with complaints of car and motorcycle sounds interrupting their mid-morning Yoga sessions. For this weekend though, those complaints will fall upon deaf ears as 115db of motorcycle fury make their way around the legendary circuit. The 3-day event is all California has in professional road racing this year and is sure to be full of action.
Fans from all over the world will be flocking for Round 9 of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The Brits have taken authority of the series so far this year with Jonathan Rea coming out on top 11 out of 16 races. Will he continue his domination or will we see someone else on the top step of the podium this weekend? Time will tell.
The weekend will be jam-packed with racing all weekend long from the series’ top riders, but will also have support races from the U.S.’ MotoAmerica series. MotoAmerica’s Superbike/Superstock 1000, Supersport, Superstock 600, and the youngins of the KTM RC Cup will grace the tarmac of the picturesque track throughout the weekend so make sure to cheer loudly for our local heroes.
A couple riders will be flying the Cycle Gear colors this weekend as well. The Hoosier State’s Nolan Lamkin will be piloting his Cycle Gear Racing KTM RC390. Currently 15th in points, Nolan is just 14 years old and the youngest competitor in the series. Nolan’s a CGR Elite rider out of our Castleton, IN location.
Now we have Andrew Lee out of Clovis, CA. Making the 2nd start of his abbreviated season, he’ll be competing in the Superstock 600 on his Andrew Lee Racing Yamaha R6. Andrew made his pro debut at Miller Motorsports Park two weeks ago and is looking to build on his 12th place finish in race 2. Andrew is also a CGR Elite rider and is based out of our Fresno, CA location.
Finally, Shelina Moreda is on board for the weekend. We’ve been working with Shelina for a couple years now, but never with her road race career. Shelina is making her debut in the highly competitive 600 Supersport class on a TOBC Yamaha R6. Here’s what she had to say, “I really appreciate Cycle Gear stepping up and becoming a sponsor for my racing. I’ve been working with Cycle Gear for 2 years for my Girlz MotoCamps, so it’s nice to bring it to the next level with them. I’d like to thank them for that.”
As for Cycle Gear, we’ll be in the house cheering on our riders and taking in the racing atmosphere at Laguna Seca. Make sure to follow our Instagram feed throughout the weekend as we’ll be giving away a few prizes to some lucky followers. See you at the races!
